Why Volunteer?
Busy schedules, work demands, family and friends – with so many tugs on our time, “Why volunteer?” is a good question.
And there are some very good answers.
Busy schedule? The Association offers a variety of volunteer opportunities. Some last a few hours, some last longer. You can choose the opportunities that are right for you.
Work demands? Association opportunities may help you in your professional life. Volunteers can acquire new skills and leadership experiences that may prove invaluable in the business world. Plus, volunteering through the Association links you directly into a vital network of successful UCLA alumni. You might find a career opportunity through networking.
Family and friends? When you volunteer your time through the UCLA Alumni Association, you become part of a special family. You can renew old acquaintances and form new friendships that last a lifetime. And some programs even give you a chance to bring your family along.
Why volunteer? As an Association volunteer, you will be giving your time and talents directly to UCLA, current students and fellow alumni. You’ll acquire a sense of accomplishment, knowing that you helped support your school and the UCLA community. For most of our volunteers, that sense of pride is the greatest gift of all.
Volunteer opportunities are a benefit of membership in the UCLA Alumni Association.
How Can I Get Involved?

Maybe you want to help with a particular program, or become more involved by serving on a committee or chairing an event. How Do I Apply For The Alumni Academy?
The Alumni Academy gives Association members the chance to develop knowledge and skills to engage as volunteers within the Alumni Association and throughout campus. Founded in 1998, the Alumni Academy has educated more than 150 volunteers who have gone on to serve in a variety of roles in support of the University, including sitting on Association committees, mentoring students, leading clubs and chapters, advocating for UCLA, raising money for Alumni Scholarships and serving on the UCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors. Alumni volunteers are an integral component of UCLA, and the knowledge and talents that they can bring to their alma mater will have impact on the future of our students and the University.
How Do I Apply For Leadership Positions?
The UCLA Alumni Association is a volunteer-driven organization. Each year, alumni are needed to serve on the UCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors and to share an alumni perspective on many campus boards and governing committees.
Guiding the Association, the board of directors comprises 25 volunteers and ex-officio members including the UCLA chancellor. The board meets six times a year. Recruiting for new board members typically begins in January and ends in May for terms commencing the following July 1.
Applicants for all board positions must be UCLA degree holders, Alumni Association members and should have experience with the Alumni Association and its programs.
